No NI-DAQmx Devices are listed in MAX using CardBus-8310

When I start MAX my PXI system shows up under Devices and Interfaces along with my PXI-6229 card but no NI-DAQmx devices are listed. I am using DAQmx 8.3 and MAX 4.1. The PXI-6229 does show up in my Windows XP Device Manager. I am using an IBM Thinkpad A21m laptop as the controller for the PXI system. I haven't been able to find any similar problem in the discussion forums.

Hi Mark,

What changed between now and this post (if you don't mind me asking)? The installation of DAQmx 8.3?

Can you post a screenshot of Device Manager similar to what is on page 11 of the installation guide? Does everything here display as expected?

Since your cards appear in Device Manager, I assume that this is not the problem, but, make sure that your chassis is turned on before you turn on your laptop.

Thanks for the reply.
A few things changed. First, everything seemed to be working but then I shut it all off, came back the next day, powered it on then the NI-DAQmx Devices were shown with a red X next to them and could not be found. Nothing had changed in the Device Manager. So I uninstalled DAQmx 8.0, the 8310 driver and hardware then installed NI-DAQmx 8.3 and reinstalled the drivers then the hardware. The Device Manager looked the same. The first time I ran it everthing worked, NI-DAQmx Devices appeared and I could test different channels. Then I turned it off and turned it back on again and the NI-DAQmx Devices were shown with a red X next to them and they could not be found. Again, the device manager did not change.

So I installed everything on a second laptop. This one is an IBM Thinkpad X30. Everything works fine on there. I think I will be able to use this second laptop during my experiments but it would be nice to be able to use the other laptop in the future. I've attached screen shots of the Device Manager and MAX from both computers. The files labeled Thinkpad X30 are from the second laptop and A21m are from the problematic laptop.

Hi Mark,

It's good to hear that the NI hardware works correctly. This eliminates one possible cause of the problem. One suggestion I have for you would be to repair MAX. Does that change the behavior that you see?

Hi Mark-

I second Missy's suggestion about a possible MAX corruption, but repairing MAX won't likely fix the problem.  Instead, you should boot into safe mode and backup the /Program Files/MAX/Data directory.  Then delete the original directory and reboot normally.  This will force MAX to regenerate it's data storage and should hopefully cause your device to reappear.

If this suggestion does solve the problem, please contact support and email your backed up /Data directory.

Thanks-

Thanks for the suggestions. I won't be able to give this a try until next week.

Removing the Data directory in safe mode and restarting worked. The problematic Data directory is attached. I will also email it to support.
Thanks for your help.
