PXI-8360 not recognised in MAX, Ressource-conflict

Hello,

I have problems to install a PXI-1033 with a NI ExpressCard 8360 properly.

my equipment:

- Dell Latitude 830, WinXP Pro, latest driver, latest BIOS
- LV 8.5, MAX4.3.0
- PXI-1033, cable, ExpressCard8360

The both LEDs on the rack are o,n but I get in the device manager a yellow mark on the PCI-to-PCI Bridge (Code12, not enough ressources). MAX did't recognise neither the rack nor the controller.

steps I proceed:
- Turn everything off, connect rack-card-PC, turn on the chasis, turn on the PC
- BIOS update
- switch of WLAN adapter in BIOS
- tried to update PCI bridge driver
- tried to identify the devices by using the ini files of the driver CD

This Laptop is tested with this controller according to the official compatibility list.

Hi dahum,

you're right, the D830 is on the compatibility list, but with a specified BIOS version, please check, if you have this version installed. The D830 isn't tested with other BIOS versions.

Another reason could be an older installed driver, please have a look at:

"This Device Cannot Find Enough Free Resources" (Error Code 12) with MXI-Express

Thanks,

but fortunately it doesn't  work. The PCI-To-PCI-Bridge is still marked yellow. And MAX doesn't see the rack or the controller. It seems like the laptop cannot handle the bridge or the amount of slots behind the bridge. I wonder if there is a way to update the Bridge driver (it's from 2001, but part of Windows and no update available) or the reorganise the ressources.

I forgot:
I installed the BIOS version A04, which is shown in the NI list as a working constellation.

Hi dahum,

just to clarify: You need the NI-VISA installed for the correct installation of your 8360. Did you have it installed?

Please install the latest version in any case:

NI-VISA 4.3 - PharLap, VxWorks, Windows 2000/CE/Mobile 5/Vista x64/Vista x86/XP

Thanks,

but still the same problem. The VISA driver were installed and I updated to the latest version according to your link.

I guess it is not a problem of a NI driver- there is something wrong with the PCI bridge together with the chassis.

If NI tested this Laptop with that controller,  there should be a way to run it.

Hi dahum,

unfortunately the 8360-system hasn't been tested with a Dell Latitude D830 but with a Dell Precision D830. For that reason, we can't guarantee that both systems are working together correctly.

Dahum,

There's a tool that captures a lot of information about your system and exports it to a file.  I'd like to look at it to see if it will help see what's going on.  If you'd send that to me I'd appreciate it.

The tool is PCIScope.  You can download an evaluation copy from http://www.tssc.de/  Go to "Tools and Utilities" and select "PCIScope".  When you run the software, select "Save As", which will create a .bpd file.

Thanks.

 Robert,

I have attached the scan file. I must say that the Laptop is not connected to the controller while I scanned, because I am out of office. If you need to see the file with connected chassis I can post this later.
I needed to rename the extension!

Dahum,

It looks like you've got a driver that is interfering with MXI Express.  Look in the add/remove programs for "NI Cardbus-8310 driver".  Removing that should fix the problem.

If that doesn't work or if you can't find it, let me know and we'll go from there.
