PXI-PCIe8361 Installation on Red Hat Enterprise Linux v7.1 with kernel-rt-3.10

Aloha!

I'm new to the NI PXI PCIe 8361 installation for Red Hat Enterprise Linux v6.6 and v7.1.  I'm using an ASL Lancelot 2879SR server, which I believe has PCIe Gen3 slots.  I've installed the NI 8361 plus the NI software which is called NIRIO140.  Everything seemed to install, and I can detect the 8361 via the biosdecode+lshw commands.  So it looks like things could be right, but I'm wondering how I can really test the installation.  I don't have anything connected to the board right now, waiting for a EE to help set that part up, and to be honest, I don't really do this kind of work or know what the purpose of this setup is (yet).

I'm also interested in knowing whether this board, which I think is at PCIe v1.0a is compatible with the RHELv6.6/kernel-rt-2.6 and/or RHELv7.1/kernel-rt-3.10 and Lancelot 2879SR PCIe Gen3 hardware.   kernel-rt is the MRG Realtime packages, RHAT sells just v3.10 now, they've EOL'd 2.6.  But one can still get CERN's rebuild of 2.6 for RHELv6.6.  I'm not sure if the 8163 will run in kernel-rt-3.10, it's not one of the listed OS's on the brochure I found.  so maybe I have to upgrade firmware?

anyway, just wondering if anyone has experience with this combination.

Mahalo!

Hi jchock,

The PCIe card you're installing simply serves as a pass-through extension that allows your PC to enumerate the cards in a PXI chassis as PCI buses. As such, without connecting the PCI card to anything, the most you'll be able to tell is whether or not your PC can recognize the PCI card itself when it's installed. IIf you want to test your PC's compatibility with your OS, you'll have to have your hardware connected to tell if it will be able to succesfully enumerate the necessary PCI buses. I'll link a few resources regarding MXI interfaces below for your reference.
