PXI reboots after network settings

Hi all

I have PXI 8186 embedded controller, when unconfigured the system boots up completely and can be seen in MAX, after i assign the IP address by selecting "obtain IP address from DHCP server" MAX asks if i want to reboot the PXI. but after the PXI reboots with a valid IP address and when it starts the LABview RT engine the system reboots again, this time it displays "reboot due to system error" on the screen and then again reboots and finally stops rebooting with the same message displayed on the screen. Does any one have any knoledge of what the problem might be?

Thanx in advance
Arun

i got some suggestion in another link to format my RT target drive and reinstall all the s/w. but with only Pharlap ETS OS on the RT target, if i format it how do reinstall the RTOS? i guess for a PXI to be detected by MAX it has to boot in to some operating system right?

Thanx for answeres

There is enough program in the ROM of the PXI that MAX will see it after you format. You can then load in your software. We've had to format a LOT lately.

Hi Rob

Thanx for the reply. I wanted to know if there is software on the ROM, does that mean the RTOS also sits in the ROM?

Thanx

Hi all,

I too have recived the same error. Does that mean i will have to RT?? I have 2 partions on my system and one is running Win2k. So do i create a RT boot disk from host and then format using Boot disk??

Depending on how long ago you purchased your controller, there are different ways to recover a dual-boot system. You can tell by seeing if it boots into Windows XP. In that case, pressing ALT as the machine boots up should bring you into a FirstWare menu. You can from there choose Applications>>FirstWare Recovery. This will install your controller as it was shipped from the factory. Then you can boot into RT Safe Mode using the BIOS or the DIP switch and install software from MAX. Then your system will still be dual-boot. Here is a great KB on the subject:

Note for 8196 users:  I tried hitting "Alt" as my 8196 booted but FirstWare didn't start.  Hitting F4 as the controller booted worked, though.
