PXIe devices not showing up in MAX (host)

Greetings. I have the following issue. I am trying to set up a host PC with an embedded controller (PXIe-8133) in a PXIe-1082 enclosure. I am at a university, so we have a private wired network. I made sure the proper software was installed on both the host PC and the embedded controller, which is running Win 7 as well as LV RT. I can see the PXIe-8133 in MAX on the host (under remote systems). MAX says the controller is connected and I can reboot the controller remotely, but I cannot save any changes (name, network info, etc) I make to the controller settings in MAX. Furthermore, I cannot find the PXIe-7965R FPGA module that I have installed in the PXIe enclosure. If I understand correctly it should show up under Devices, but it just spends a couple minutes searching and does not find anything. The same happens if I try to show the software installed on the controller.

I am booting the controller in LV RT, however, I have also tried RT safe mode and get the same result. The FPGA module shows up if I boot the controller into Win 7 and check it on MAX (on the controller). It shows up under RIO devices. I suspect this is likely a network problem, but I also tried unplugging the host from the network and connecting an ethernet cable directly between the host and controller and had the same problems. I am, however, logged into the network when I switch the ethernet connection. Is this likely a network problem that I should discuss with my network administrator? It confuses me that the PXIe-8133 says connected in MAX on the host, but I can't modify settings or see any devices.

Thanks for your help,

Ryan

Hello Ryan,

Which slot is the card placed in? Have you moved it at all? Do you see the device in Windows Device manager at all?  If it shows a conflict, you can try to update NI-VISA to the latest version. This will include updates to your MAX and PXI Platform Services software as well. Which versions of the NI-VISA and PXI platform services drivers are currently on the host? And are you able to set permissions in MAX at all?

So far as the network, do you have the Windows Firewall turned off on your host? Also check if the university's antivirus might be targeting NI software. But most likely updating or repairing these drivers will be a good starting point before contacting the administrator.  Hope this will help!

Deborah-

Thanks for the reply. The card is placed in slot 4, and as I said before I can see it in MAX on the controller, just not on the host. I have not moved it. I can't see any of the devices in Windows Device Manager. I have attached screenshots of the software list in MAX for both the host and controller. The host has NI-VISA 5.0.3, but the controller has NI-VISA 5.1. I suppose this could be part of the problem?

Currently, I can detect the PXIe-8133 in MAX on the host, but as soon as I click on it to look at the network settings in MAX it hangs up and when I look at the screen for the 8133 controller it has the following error (also see screenshot): Scheduler Assertion Error: C0000005 Interrupt Enabled. Scheduler Enabled.  The error does not pop up on the controller screen until I click on the 8133 in MAX on the host.

I have both firewall and

Well, it looks like my above post got mangled for some reason. The info is still correct, but I was not able to attach the screenshots. The last sentence should read "I have both firewall and antivirus disabled."

Thanks,

Ryan,

Various members of LabVIEW Real-Time R&D have been monitoring this thread, and we would like for you to call National Instruments, create an SR (service request) on this issue, and ask that this issue be escalated to the LabVIEW Real-Time Product Support Engineer (PSE).  The Real-Time PSE can provide you with instructions on how to set the PXI controller up to get more information about why the system is crashing on you when attempting to identify it in MAX.

Some additional useful things to note when creating the SR are:

  1. How your hard disk is partitioned on the PXIe-8133 (You noted you have Windows 7 installed, do you also have a FAT/Reliance partition and where is it)?
  2. What RT software you have installed on the target (what software did you install via MAX)?
  3. What information outputs to the screen when you boot the system up (a picture of the monitor may suffice).

Was this issue every resolved?  I recently received the same "Scheduler Assertion" error when attempting to connect to a PXI controller.  It also mentioned that it could not find wsock32.dll.

I don't think this ever went anywhere.

Did you partition your hard disk?  Was this system previously a Windows system?  Is the partition on the system a FAT32 partition or is it an NTFS partition?  This is a likely reason for this problem.

Our issue magically went away after reinstalling LabVIEW and associated drivers on the PC then updating the PXI software as well.
