PXIexpress boards require bmc to startup

We have an embedded motherboard witha cpciexpress slot. We have no

PICMG 2.9 BMC and the PXIe-6341 is not being recognised by Windows.

Does the PXIe-6341 require management IPMI commands to enable PCIexpress links?

Hello tony123,

So is this a MXI Express interface that you're working with?  What exactly are you seeing in Windows Device Manager?  I was hoping to get a little more background information about your setup as well (i.e. version of pxi platform services, version of daqmx, pxi chassis etc.).

I am using a custom chassis that has hybrid slots and no PXI or PICMG 2.9 support.

CPCI cards work fine. I am trying to use the 6341 but am wondering if the

card requires the chassis manger to start it.

The card shows nothing in the Windows  7 device manager.

Hello tony123,

Yes the card must comply with the PICMG standard in order to be viewed by Windows.  You may have to talk to the manufacturer of the hybrid chassis to make sure that they are complying with the standard.

Tony123,

To clarify further, your plug-in board does not need to comply with PICMG 2.9 (the CompactPCI System Management specification), though it does need to comply with the base CPCIe specification (EXP.0).  Technically speaking, to be visible to Windows (or any software, including the PC BIOS), your board needs a functional PCI Express interface.  No sideband interfaces (including I2C) should be required for Windows to detect the board, unless your specific chassis is requiring that plug-in boards support a management interface in order to enable the PCIe interface to the slot.

Let me know if you'd like further clarification.

Thanks,

Eric G.
