Problem MXI-4 with chassis 1042 shows connection to this chassis timed out.

HI All,

The NI chassis 1042 with PXI MXI 4 was working fine couple of days back. please the attachment for NI Card Info
From last 2 days, I am facing this issue of timeout.
In NI MAX, the following status is shown:
"Error 0XFFFB388C - The MXI-4 connection to this chassis timed out."

The Chassis shows a red cross icon in NI MAX.

I have performed the following steps:
1. Turn off the HOST PC.
2. Turn off the Chassis.
3. Turn On the chassis back. Wait for 10 mins.
4. Turn on the HOST PC.
5. In NI MAX it still shows the red cross icon.
6. I have checked the cable connected to the HOST PC.

The chassis has one led.
During powerup, it turns green and later changes to flashing red and in between green also.

Can any one provide me some inputs how to resolve it.
Let me know if any more information is needed.

Thanks in Advance.

Rkanna,

It sounds like you have a hardware problem on the PXI side of the cable.  Because your chassis light is flashing red there's almost certainly a power supply problem with the chassis itself.  I don't think cleaning the chassis input air filters will fix the problem, but I'd certainly start with that in case it does.

When you turn on the chassis you only need to wait 1 second (even 1/2 second is enough) before powering up the PC.

What are the LEDs on the MXI 4 cards showing?  They may be different between the PXI and PCI sides.  You should get green PWR and LINK lights once you turn on the host PC, but the LEDs will change when your chassis LED turns red.  If you get green PWR and LINK before the chassis LED turns red then your MXI hardware is probably okay.

hi

The Power LED is green at startup and later changes to flashing red.

The link on MSI is showing green.

Please find the attachments.

The chassis power is connected to the AC outlet.

When we powercyle the chassis, the Power LED on MXI is not turning on. It is always OFF.

But the LED for Link, TX & RX are blinking at startup.

Any idea what could be the problem.

I removed all the cards except MXI card.

I performed the power cycle.

Still the LED on the chassis is blinking RED.

So I even removed the MXI 8331 card.

Performed a power cycle.

Still the LED on the chassis is blinking RED.

please help me guys.

Rkanna,

It sounds like there's something wrong with your chassis.  I don't know whether it's a power supply or a power monitor problem, but either one will prevent it from working.  You'll need to send it in for repair.
