Unable to change chassis/controller information

Hello,

My system set-up is that of a PXI-8105 controller and a PXI-1000B chassis.  MAX shows the chassis as "unidentified" and when I try to identify it, it gives me the error "MAX could not change the information for this chassis".  When I try to delete all idenfications (the 8105 is properly identified), I get the message "An unknown error occurred while deleting the controller and chassis information form this system".  Any advice on resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advance!

Hi Dennis,

I've seen an error like this and we solved it by booting the computer without the chassis turned on. Then in Measurement & Automation Explorer we right click on the PXI system and Delete all identifications. Then we rebooted this time with the PXI chassis on and we could identify everything in MAX correctly. Please try this and if it doesn't help please let us know.

Hi Krista,

Thank you for the advice.  How does one go about booting the computer without turning the chassis on?  I've looked through my 1000B manual and there doesn't seem to be a way of doing so.  From what I can tell, the 1000B chassis and the computer share the same power supply.

Hi Dennis,

I am sorry they do use the same power supply. Have you tried deleting all identifications in MAX. Really the best way to solve this issue is to clear the PXI system in MAX. There may be an issue with MAX.  Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling or repairing MAX.

Hi Krista,

Yes, we have uninstalled and reinstalled MAX.  How does one repair the installation?

There are some other oddities about the system as well.  As I said, I am unable to delete or otherwise edit any of the identifications regarding the controller and the chassis.  The controller has been correctly identified as PXI-8105 and the chassis just shows up as unidentified.  MAX gives me errors when I try to change either.  I also tried to delete the pxisys.ini file in the windows directory (it was an empty file when I opened it) but when I restart the computer, everything is still exactly the same.  MAX boots up and does not attempt to create another pxisys.ini file, so somehow the system doesn't seem to be using the file at all.

I also read somewhere to delete the "Data" folder in my MAX directory but there is not data folder there, just "Data Dictionaries".  When I delete that, MAX refuses to boot up.

Hi Dennis,

You should definutly have a data folder. What version of MAX do you have. If you don't have the latest version try downloading the latest version of NI-VISA or NI-DAQmx and installing it. This will upgrade MAX and should fix the issue. There must be an installation issue with your MAX install. I would definutly go beyond just a repair of MAX at this point.
