Why doesn't my PC start when i plug in the PCI-8331 MXI-4 board?

Hello. I am trying to set up a PCI-PXI connection using a PXI3000 chassis with a PXI-8331 MXI-4 controller and a PCI-8331 board. I have installed all the required software, both for the PXI and the PCI board, but when i plug the PCI board in the computer the PC won't start. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you

A small rectification:p The PC starts but doesn't boot both when connecting the PCI MXI-4 to the PXI MXI-4 and when they are not connected. I also get a message related to a RAID controller, after scanning the PC for devices,  something like"None RAID Ch0" and after Ch0 a serial number. After that the PC freezes. I am not very familiar with RAID controllers and I hope you could tell me if this is somehow related to my problem and how I can deal with it. Thanks

Hello Luci_sufy,

Have you tried to tun on your PXI chassis before turning on your computer? You need to do that so that your computer can see the device when booting up. Also make sure that you have NI VISA installed. Do you have the PXI Platform Services installed? Which operating system and computer are you using?

Hi. I have installed NI-VISA from the driver CD that was provided with the PCI board and I have also respected the powering up order, first the chassis then the PC. I am using a Intel Celeron, 2GHz, 512MB RAM and Windows XP SP3 OS. The chassis is a PXI 3000, Aeroflex chassis. From what I  read, I understand  that the drivers are supplied pre-installed. (if by PXI platform services you mean the hardware drivers;anyway, it's not booting even when the PXI is not connected to the PC). I keep on wondering about the Raid controller I mentioned in the previous message. I disabled the RAID operation option from BIOS(switched to non-RAID) but it still doesn't work. Also, I plugged in the board in another PC that has no RAID controller integrated and the PC booted(I didn't install any NI_VISA drivers). Please tell me if it is somehow related.

Thanks

I come again with an "adjustment". There is a feature that is installed while running the setup from the driver CD and that is PXI Platform Services for Windows 2.3.1.

I would add that MXI-4 is a PCI bridge and some PC BIOS will not accept that. They assume that the only PCI devices in the machine are those on the mainboard. This is a BIOS limitation. It may sometimes be solvable with a BIOS update. Or swap to another PC that does not have this BIOS limitation.
