cannot see installed software on remote target in MAX

I have installed software on my PXI Controller but it is not listed in the Software tree.  If I select 'add/remove software' when I right click on Software, it shows that everything is installed.  Why don't I see the software in the tree?

Sometimes MAX is real fickle about what it wants to show. Try these steps:
 
1) Try refreshing MAX
2) Close and Reopen MAX (i've had issues in the past with Test Panels not running and this fixed the problem)
3) Are you sure software is installed on your PXI chassis. Make sure when you Right click and select Add/Remove Software that you're not misreading each icon.(see attached)
 
4) Try reinstalling the NI support software described in step 3. Couldn't hurt.

when I try to look at what is listed under Software by clicking the '+' sign, I get the message 'Timed out while communicating with remote target'.  Then the '+' disappears indicating there is not Software available.
