change host (shared variable engine)

I am trying to change the Host of my PXI Target to another PC.  By changing the host, I'm changing the location of the Shared Variable Engine.  I had to upgrade from LV 7.1 to LV 8.6 on the new PC Host.  But I'm sure the Shared Variable Engine is (SVE) not running on the new Host because I cannot find the Variable Manager although the Distributed System Manager exists.  I've re-installed LV 8.6 on the new PC twice with no change.  Any ideas on how to get the SVE started along with all the utilities?

The installer says I have the following components on the PC:  NI Istrument IO Assistant for LabVIEW 7.0, LabVIEW 8.6, LabVIEW Real-Time Module 8.6, LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 7.1.1, LabWindow/CVI 8.5.1 Run-Time Engine, MAX 5.4, Measurement Studio Common .NET Language ... 2.0, PXI Platform Service for LabVIEW Real-Time 2.3.2, PXI Platform Service for Windows 2.3.3, Real-Time Execution Trace Toolkit 2.0.1, NI-WatchDog 2.2.1f11.

The applications I have are:  DataSocket, LabVIEW, NI-DAQ, NI-Serial, Real-Time Execution Trace Toolkit, VISA, Distributed System Manager, MAX, License Manager, Registration Wizard, NI-Spy, NI-488.2

Howdy faustina,

Assuming you have the SVE installed, you can check out this document on How to Prevent the Shared Variable Engine from Starting Automatically.  This will give you the location of the preference to start manually or automatically.  It sounds like you have the proper programs installed.  Post back if you have any more updates.

Sincerely,

Start >> Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Services shows the following NI services:  Domain Service, LXI Discovery Service, mDNS Responder Service, PSP Server Location, Time Synchronization, and Variable Engine.  All are Status:Started with Start Type: Automatic.  I've actually restarted Variable Engine twice.  However, in LabVIEW, Tools >> Shared Variable still does not show the Variable Manager option.

Howdy faustina,

The NI Distributed System Manager actually replaces the Shared Variable Manager in LabVIEW 8.6.   I apologize, I should have caught that from your first post.  You can use the DSM to deploy and dictate the lifetime of the shared variables in your project or application.  Please post back if you have any further questions about this.  Thanks!
Sincerely,
