data download from pxi very slow via ftp

Hi,

I try to download files (about 1 MByte each) from my PXI realtime system to my hostcomputer via ftp. But it takes  long time, the dat transfer is about 2.33 kB/s ! Is there a nother way? I transferred it via a DOS-Command.

hi
why are you not using FTP option in measurement and automation explorer(MAX)???

herez how u do it, in max,
1.go to remote systems,
2.click on the RT you want to retrieve data from,
3.select FTP option
and rest is pretty simple!

Hi,

I tried it also in Max, but its the same speed. It needs 15 Minutes for 1 Mb. Could it be the reason that I use a crossover-cable?

Hi,

The common reasons for why you are not able do get faster transfer through ftp, will be either that there is too much traffic on your local Network, or your controller is busy doing some other task.

If you suspect much traffic on network as the cause, then using a crossover cable will indeed make data download quicker.

Hi Dev,

the problem is, that I AM using a crossover cable. So there is no local network except these two computers. And there are also no other tasks running.

Thanks for reply

Hi again,

the next thing is, that the other way round, from the host machine to the realtime machine is in normal speed.

What can I do?

Hi,

Sorry i misunderstood your query!

just ckeck following points.

Are static IP addresses assigned to the host and RT?

Check the settings of the ethernet card on host PC.

And just to make sure it is not a hardware fault on your RT controller, check with a different RT controller and see if it behaves the same way.
If it does, your Rt would be fine and Host PC might be to blame for slow FTP.

do let me know

regards

Dev

Hi Dev,

everything works now, the duplex settings were wrong for the ethernet card in the rt-machine.

Bye

Hey Yim,
Glad to hear that!

just out of academic interest, can i know to to what did you change duplex settings?

My guess would be that you changed it to half duplex mode. am i right?

regards,

Dev

Hi Dev,

yes I changed to half Duplex mode, but without any understanding why it works now. Do you have a clue?

Thanks

Tim
