It is a Seagate FreeAgent 500GB USB2.0.

There should be no difference between the USB flash drive and the hard drive in this case.  Please ensure the USB hard drive is formatted for FAT32.

Mark,

The USB drive was formatted NTFS.  I created 2 FAT32 partitions and designated them U: and V:.  Still RT does not know they exist.  I did a quick format on each partition.  Just in case it matters I will do a full format to see if it helps.

Hi Bruce,

Can you please go in to the BIOS of your RT controller and check if USB Support has been enabled. The instructions for this are located PXI 8106 manual on how to enter the BIOS.

What exactly happens when you try to FTP to the controller? Do you get an error message?

Good luck!

Karunya,

I checked to BIOS and USB support was not enabled, so I enabled it.  Still no luck.  The link for instructions on FTP to the controller doesn't work.  I have FTP'd through MS Explorer and it works fine, I have also used the transfer files function in MAX.  I have attached a Word document with the captured error I receive when I try to FTP the U:.  When I enter ftp://169.254.0.3/u:/ into Explorer I can see my USB flash drive.  When I try this with the USB hard drive it searches for about a minute then reports the error in the attachment.

Thanks,

Bruce

UPDATE:  I found another USB hard drive, a LaCie 40GB.  I reformatted it to FAT32 and the RT controller sees it.  I don't know if it is a USB 2.0 drive like the Seagate but it does work.  So there is some incompatiblity between RT and the Seagate drive.  Could it be USB 2.0?

Thanks,

Bruce

Hi Bruce,

I just need some clarification from this post. You said "The link for instructions on FTP to the controller doesn't work"'.  And then you said "I have FTP'd through MS Explorer and it works fine". So are you able to FTP to it? If you can, when can you FTP to it? The error message that you received doesn't look like a LabVIEW error message but a windows one. Is this true?

When you try to FTP to it from LabVIEW RT, do you get an error message?

If you are able to FTP to it through MS explorer, you really shouldn't have a problem FTP to through it LabVIEW RT as it uses the same protocol.

The LaCie 40 GB also seems to use USB 2.0, so the issue is not local to USB 2.0 but to your particular HDD.

I was referring to the link in your previous message.  I wanted to follow the instructions on how to FTP to the RT controller to see if my method was not correct.  My method uses MS Explorer, I enter FTP://169.254.0.3/ to view the contents of the c:\ of the RT controller.  Yes the error message that I sent you was a Windows error, it is the error I receive when RT doesn't recognize the HDD.

Thanks,

Bruce

Hi Bruce,

The protocol for FTP from Windows Explorer is the same as the one for LabVIEW RT, so there should'nt be a difference with that. You did say that it worked from MAX? Is this true?
