I have a quadrature differential encoder and the differential reciever chip which I am right now powering through a separate power supply. I would like to power this through the +5V in the PXI-6281. In total they consume a little more than 0.1Amps. Is this possible? If so, the encoder also has a case shield which I have to ground since it is in an electrically noisy environ. Right now the power supply has a ground for that. Where would I connect it when using the PXI? Can I simply connect it to the PXI-chassis or should I still ground it separately to the bldg. ground?

Hi nsud,
Yes. You can use the +5V supply of PXI 6281. I assume you are using SCB-68 connector block for the PXI 6281. You can connect the encoder case shield ground to the SCB-68 case sheild.
