remote PXI connected to target PC

Happy New Year.

I am having some difficulties with setting up the remote PXI-8176 machine connected to host PC running
windows 2009 through ethernet cable. Below is the description of the problem:

I have installed Labview and Labview RT 7.0 on the host PC running
Windows XP. After that, following the instructions, I started the
PXI box and reboot the host PC. The host PC was able to detect
the PXI box and corresponding unconfigured device comes up
under the "Remote device" in MAX. So far so good.

After that I have started to configure it with accordance to
instructions . I assigned the IP and
netmask to PXI box and rebooted the PXI and prompted. It reboots
properly. The next thing was to be able to upload the NI-VISA 3.0

as requested. This did not exist on the PXI box and the configuration
programm prompted to install this software from host PC to
PXI box. That's what I did. The programm says that installation is completed and again promted to reboot PXI box to make changes
permannent. However, right after that it has never booted. The
ethernet connection is fine (host PC does send the packages to
the PXI box but it did not get packages back). Please
help if possible.

Thanks for contacting National Instruments. It seems like when you reboot after installing VISA 3.0, the PXI-8176 controller doesn't reboot. I would check and make sure that you are not in Safe Mode for some reason. You can ensure this by checking the dip switches on the front panel of the controller. Can you tell me exactly what happens when it doesn't reboot? If you plug in a monitor into the PXI-8176 controller, you can see some additional information as to which step is being executed. When the status in MAX says that it is rebooting, what do you see on the controller's monitor? What happens if you switch it on and then off manually?
