why does MAX take so long to update

Have you tried either of the suggestions I made in previous post?

Go to the VISA options tab in MAX under Tools»NI-VISA»VISA Options.

1) Disable the GPIB-VXI passport in Passports section

2) Disable the "Auto find every GPIB-VXI" in General Settings section.

The slow Remote Systems expansion issue has been fixed in MAX 4.7.  You can download it from here.

If you have any disconnected RT targets under Remote Systems I would recommend deleting them, because MAX will waist time trying to connect to them and in general that can slow things down.
