I'll keep an eye open for it again and snapshot the Max panel to show what it sees or doesn't and post.

Tim I got it to do the disconnect again and I got a snapshot from MAX and the Windows Device Manager that I added as attachments. So the device is still seen by windows and MAX (COM3 in this case). Windows device manager also shows the driver working properly as the image shows. The Power Meter Soft Panel shows connection error and so does MAX when I try to use the test panel.

What USB hub is attached to you PC? I will see if I can find the same one here to reproduce the issue.

Another possibility is to try to detect what else you're running may be using the USB port of the power meter. The error displayed indicates something suspicious is happening on the system with USB ports.
There are 3rd party programs out there (for example, backup programs for USB hard drives) that may run at all times and query all available USB ports for devices. To check if this is true, use the Process Explorer, and search all processes for "USB" to check if any process is using your device. (While you're in the state when it does not work, of course).
If there are some such programs, try terminating them from the process explorer, and run the SFP again. Assuming that there are such programs on your machine, evaluate whether or not you need them running at all times, and try configuring them differently so that they do not interfere with the communication.

The Power Sensor is direct connected to the computer not thru a hub. I ran no tests and no other USB calls were made when this occrued. Again Power Saver is turn off and this should not have shut down.

I know your 5680 isn't connected through the hub, but the few times I have heard of issues like this is when the person has a USB hub plugged in to their computer. So it might be causing the problem somehow even though the 5680 isn't connected to it.
