iPAQ 5540 and 5550 WLAN applications

Even with good signal strength, the WLAN card in the iPAQ very often does not assosiate with the Access Point. When the connection is OK it stays OK.
It is the initial connection that is the problem.
Any ideas. I'm using ROM version 1.00.13 ENG and Wireless LAN: Driver version 3.2.2.115
