Cannot install the RIO&VISA to the RT target. There is a note said 'error while reading a file from the local disk'.

Hello! I want to use CRIO Reconfigurable Embedded System to develop a controller for my system recently.
First, I want to learn the basic opration through 'Getting_Results_with_CompactRIO_and_LabVIEW',especially about the HW and SW
configuration. I followed the steps in the documents. When it came to 'Creating a Project for a CompactRIO Reconfigurable
Embedded System', I could add the RT controller, but couldn't add the chassis. When I launched MAX I found there was RIO error
under the 'devices and interfaces'. Then I checked all of the above steps and found nothing wrong. I searched the forum for
similar problems and found some solutions. I tried one of them to reformat the RT controller. But when I wanted to reintall
the SW I found only some of them could be intalled(including Real-time,watchdog),the others couldn't be installed(including
VISA,VISA SERVER,RIO). It said, error while reading a file from the local disk. This file is 'nipalen.err'. The concret error
note is shown in the accessory. There was another error called VISA error. The file is in the folder PAL. I have reinstalled
the PAL,but still didn't find the file. I really don't know how to solve the problem now. Please give me some suggestions.

Hello friend.

This problem could be from many things. Here I would try them first. If it solved your problem great, if not let me know.

1)      Cable. Is it a good cable? If not, change. It the cable looks old, change. You would be amazed how simple it was. Some time we over look that.

2)      Is the LabVIEW professional version?

3)      Have you got the latest Max (driver)? If not, download it.

4)      Are you following the steps to reprogram CRIO?

Good Luck

Thank you for your suggestions.
My cable is new. I have checked it and found nothing wrong.
The version of my LabVIEW is professinal.
The version of my MAX is 4.3. I think it is the latest version.
What's the concrete steps to reprogram CRIO? I have no idea about it.

Hello friend.

Before I went off to solve the complex problem, I got to ask you some more questions. It seems like you got CRIO which had been used before, or a brand new one.

If it is a brand new, you should be able to contact the sale representative to get the replacement, because it should came completely install and ready to use.

If it is a used one, here are you must do some more check. Do you have RT module installed. If not, it might be your problem. That might be why you can not read files, because, it did not exist in your system from the first place. Or you might try to reinstall RT module in your computer. It might solve your problem.

If all else fail, and if the unit has been abuse for example, try to run, and reload the program under really extreme conditions, or bounds the until around with the sand blowing and water dripping, and over 200 degrees. Then we must have a long chat.

Good Luck

Hi Gump,

Are you able to find your cRIO Target in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX)?  Have you tried reinstalling software to the cRIO controller?  If you can see your RT controller in MAX then if you highlight it, you'll see the following help files below:
They should take you through the steps to re-configured your RT controller.

Let us know if that helps at all.
