Compact RIO not appearing in MAX

That should be the correct address but I still haven't seen it.  Hopefully it will come through later today.

Thanks,

Hi Jeff,
I couldn't help but notice your feelings about CompactRIO.  cRIO has been a very reliable product, so your experiences with it are somewhat disconcerting for us.  At NI, we haven't heard of any major issues with network "dropping off" as you described it on your cRIO controller.  Any time we've had any such support issues come up, its been due to network setup, traffic, etc.

Some basic things to check would be:
  • Have you tried isolating the network by just using a cross-over network?  Can you still reproduce it?  Unusually heavy network traffic can cause communication to get interrupted.
  • Do you see this problem only when you have a VI (or startup executable) running on the controller? If so, make sure you have placed wait statements in your loops to allow the communication thread to execute and not get starved.
  • When you reconnect the power and you redetect the controller, do you have to reassign the IP address?  Are you using a static IP address that is not being used elsewhere? A duplicate IP can often be assigned by a DHCP network, causing issues.  One good check is to shut off your controller when you lose communication, and try to ping that IP address from the Windows Command Prompt.
We would love to help you with this issue, and any other you may be having, to ensure you achieve the success our other customers have experienced with the CompactRIO platform.  There are other troubleshooting steps we can go through to try to find the issue.  Please feel free to contact us via www.ni.com/ask/.  As I said earlier, the issues you are seeing are not characteristic of the CompactRIO platform, and a bit unusual.  We want to work with you to make sure you are successful.

Have a great day!

Hello all,

Dont know if this helps, but I have c CRIO9004 with chassis 9102.  When I got it, I could not detect it in MAX and did everything the support engineeers told me.  I was just about to send it back after a week of messing about when I realised that something I installed was not correct.

NI-RIO comes with R series devices or RIO embedded systems.  I had installed the wrong one, which then did not allow me to install other installation modules relating to Labview 7.1 and RIO support or add-ons.  I had to remove the NI-RIO for R series devices then install NI-RIO for embedded systems.  Check before you start the install of NI-RIO  that the important/relevant modules are selected for your system.

Check that the ethernet cable is a crossover type.

Check that your versions of software are up to date, by downloading it from NI.com.

Hope it helps.

Hi Kev,

Also, be sure you have installed the Embedded Software CD whenever it comes with your controller.
