Ethernet connection for cRio9014 using LabVIEW Run-Time engine

Hi,

I am having trouble connecting between cRio 9014 and DAS computer (using only LabVIEW Run-time Engine 8.5, NI -RIO 3.0.1, and NI-DAQmx 8.8).

Here is the detail:

I am able to communicate with cRio 9014 when I using my computer (I have LabVIEW 8.5 professional development suit and other required software on my computer). And I am able to successfully build a stand alone application and deploy into the cRio and I also set the stand alone application as start up . I am also able to run the application on my computer. But I couldn't get any Ethernet connection when I connect my cRio to another computer which has only LabVIEW Run-time Engine 8.5, NI -RIO 3.0.1, and NI-DAQmx 8.8 installed. I set up the TCP/IP and using crossover cable on the run -time engine computer but still no connection at all.

I'm new to this LabVIEW so I might not able to describe it professionally. Sorry.

Can someone please tell me that I need to install other software in DAS computer or I missed something important?

Thanks

On your other computer, are you able to see your cRIO controller in Measurement and Automation Explorer? What is the IP address that has been assigned to the controller and the computer itself? Have you assigned static IP addresses to both and in the same subnet? What exactly do you mean when you say 'no ethernet connection at all'?

Hi,

I was not able to detect anything in MAX on DAS computer. On my DAS computer is (IP192.168.1.1)  (subnet mask 255.255.255.0 ) (default gateway 192.168.1.1)  (preferred DNS server 192.168.1.1).  and on cRio (IP192.168.1.2)  (subnet mask 255.255.255.0 ) (gateway 192.168.1.1)  (DNS server 192.168.1.1). and I'm using static IP.

There is no Ethernet connection at all means that there is no connection on computer (red X on the connection icon and it shows that network cable is unplugged) and no LED light on Ethernet port on cRio itself.

Thanks for your help.

I am not sure why you can't see the LED light on the cRIO controller. You mentioned that the controller is working fine on the first computer. Have you checked again to see if that's true right now? Also, are you sure the network card on the computer is working fine? You can try the following steps as well:

On your computer, leave the Default gateway and DNS server address blank in the Internet Protocol properties page while keeping the ip address and subnet mask the same. Next, switch on the IP reset switch on the cRIO controller and reset. Open up MAX and see if you can atleast see the controller in there. If so, assign an IP address and subnet mask and leave the gateway and DNS server blank again. Be sure to switch off IP reset and then reboot your controller from MAX.

Hi,

I checked it on first computer, and it's working. I checked the network card of the DAS computer, it also works. I was able to reset the IP address on the first computer and reassign IP and subnet mask but I couldn't get the connection or reset the ip on DAS computer.

Thanks

What's a DAS computer? Also, can you post the screenshot of the Internet Protocol properties page of the second computer over here?

sam,

To me it looks like (1) a network cable issue or (2) issue with the second PCs network card.

In order to check whether it is a network cable issue, use the same cable in the DAS PC which is working, to connect to cRIO.

What is the model of the network card that you are using in the second PC?

I had another thought. Do you have multiple network cards in your host? If so, it is possible that you are connecting to your target with the secondary network adapter. Try the following knowledge base article:

Hi,

I used the same network cable and it only works on the 1st computer. The network card on my DAS PC is on the mother board itself. The mother board model is Intel Desktop Board D845GLVA.
