How to convert PXI 8196 to real-time embedded controller

I want to convert the PXI 8196 to real-time embedded controller.
I use IBM T42 Laptop to communicate with the PXI 8196 via ethernet (connected with cross cable).

I installed LabVIEW 7.1.1 LabVIEW real-time 7.1.1 Device Driver(NI-DAQmx 7.4 etc.) and LabVIEW real-time target software for LabVIEW 7.1 on Laptop.

I change the PXI 8196 BIOS setting to configure it booting into LabVIEW RT.

The PXI 8196 is booted into LabVIEW RT safe mode and display the correct IP address.

I found the PXI 8196 in Remote System and reset its IP to be in the same subnet. Then installed all availabe real-time embedded softwares to PXI 8196 in MAX -> remote system -> software ->install software ->select all to install.

Successfully installed, the PXI 8196 is rebooted, however it is still booted into LabVIEW RT safe mode, not true LabVIEW RT. Why ?

I checked the www.ni.com and found a software 777849-01 LabVIEW real-time deployment license for PXI controllers(ETS RTOS), what is it?

Do I have to install this software package to convert PXI 8196 to real-time embedded controller?

Hi Yanfeng,

I am experiencing almost the same thing as you. What the worse is, I even don't have LV RT installation option for selection.. It does not appear in my RT software insallation list in MAX. I am waiting for the work around or formal correction relaease for this issue also, If you get any idea, email me.

Did you set the settings in the BIOS to boot from LV RT instead of LV RT safe mode?

Ohh yeah, in order to be correct with the licensing agreement you will need a license for the real time deployment.

Hi,

The issue is most likely caused by not having the latest version of the Embedded Software CD. It provides support for targets which released after the LV RT release and provides the files necessary to install LVRT to the target. Often times the target doesn't even show up in MAX, but if there are more recent drivers like DAQ which installed support file for the 8196, it will show up in MAX.

The LabVIEW Real-Time Embedded Software CD comes with any new RT Controller. If you would like to upgrade an existing controller and you don't have the LabVIEW RT Module,
please contact a National Instruments Sales Representative to order your copy of this CD.
