Is it possible to use a USB Grabber to record any video format using LabView?

Hello

For a University project, we want to use a video camera which is connected to the computer using a USB grabber. 

We want to use LabView to create a program that allow us to  display and record the video on Avi format .

Using a usb webcam we can run our program and works without a problem, but when we use the USB grabber the program cant recognize the external camera.

Does the IMAq works only with USB webcams? Can we use the USB grabber with the IMAQ?

The only problem is that is our firts time using LabView, and we need advice using IMAQ
