Hi all,
I'm trying to validate compatibility of my PC (desktop) for use as a real-time target using the Desktop ETS Evaluator (http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/lang/en/id/1369) and by the instrutions detailed in KB: 4LEHIQ4N
When booting the PC, I get the following message:
FDD
Loading PHARBOOTSYS error
I tried to solve the problem by the instructions detailed in KB: 4QCAQT09:
1. I checked the requirements for the PC as detailed in KB: 39NDI8PK (the PC has a Intel® Pentium® D proccesor and I've installed an ethernet adapter with a Intel® 82574L chipset see: http://www.intel.com/Products/Desktop/Adapters/Gigabit-CT/Gigabit-CT-overview.htm)
2. I verified that the USB key is being recognized as a floppy drive and i tried using different USB sticks with different memory size (128 MB, 1 GB and 2 GB)
Can someone help here?

dfhg,
These are my assumptions based on your post:
1) You were able to create the USB PC Evaluator just fine (no errors cames up when you were running the executable to prepare the USB stick)
2) When you plug in the USB stick and boot into the computer's BIOS, you can see the USB stick's name and this is what you set as the primary boot option
3) When you restart your computer after making these changes to the BIOS, this is when you see the error at the top of a black screen
Unfortunately the KB (4QCAQT09) that you linked is worded incorrectly. The USB stick must be enumerated as a Hard Drive (HDD) and not a Floppy Drive (FDD) as it says. I am going to work to change that document early next week so that no one else trips up on the section. Your motherboard's manufacturer should have the manual for their BIOS and that should walk through how to change the USB stick to HDD instead of FDD. Give it a shot and let me know how it goes.

Hi Grant
Thanks for your respond
Your assumptions were right:
1. I created the USB Evaluator with no errors
2. I see the USB stick name in the BIOS and i set it as the primary option
3. When i restart the PC this was the error i saw
As you suggested - I changed the USB emulation type from FDD to HDD
Now, when i restart the PC, the USB stick is recognised, but i get the message: "Loading PHARBOOTSYS" for a period of one - two hours in which the led of the USB stick flickers and afterwards the message changes to "Loading PHARBOOTSYS error"
Any further suggestions?
By the way - the PC BIOS is the: Phoenix Award BIOS GC11010N.86A0311
Thanks again,

Danny,
What Hard Drive do you have installed in the PC? What file format is it (Win32, FAT32, etc.)? I'm sure you have but have you tried other USB ports? Unfortunately this error could be caused by a couple of things so it will take some probing to figure out what's going on. I will try my best to get you up and running as soon as possible.

Hard Drive: SATA 160 GB
File format: Windows FAT32
Other USB ports: well, as you guessed - I tried and received the same behaviour

Danny,
As I started asking around for input on your issue, I see that this issue is also being explored by your FSE (Doron). I am going to be working with him and the other applications engineer that was helping him with your issue. This is just because we don't need multiple threads for the same issue and Doron's escalation actually has a more efficient process than the forums. You should be hearing from him with our advice. Thanks!
