Hi,
I am trying to measure temperature reading from K type thermocouple using NI-9220 with the NI-MAX. Is that right to use NI-9220 for reading a thermocouple? I am new to this. Please advise
Thanks in advance.

Hello Vasu11,
It is possible to take temperature readings from the NI-9220 device, however NI does have specific temperature input modules that would give you a much more accurate reading. The 9220 has an input range of +/-10 V, whereas a temperature input module, such as the NI-9210, has a much smaller input range (+/- 80 mV in this case). A typical K-type thermocouple's output generally ranges from -6.5 mV to 55 mV, so the smaller input range of the 9210, along with a high resolution, will give you a much more accurate reading. There are also other benefits to having a temperature specific input module such as open-thermocouple detection, cold-junction compensation, and anti-aliasing filters.

Hi Garrett,
Thanks for your reply.
I am wondering does NI-9220 has an in-built CJC?
Please advise.
Thanks

Vasu,
The 9220 will not have a CJC, it is a temperature-input module specific attribute. I linked the datasheet for the 9220 below for you to review at your leisure. There are work-arounds to temperature compensation that you can look into as well, a good example is using a AD8495 thermocouple amplifier. I linked a website below that you can look into for examples.
