RIO modules

Why do my compact RIO modules not show up in MAX? The cRIO shows up under "Remote Systems." I can see the RS-232 port on the RT controller and the FPGA in the chassis. The software is all up to the correct version. But, I can't find any way to access the I/O modules. I have 9211, 9263, 9481 and 9265 in the chassis.

The I/O modules seem to show up fine in the LV 8.0 Project Explorer. Do I not need to configure them in MAX first?

Thanks in advance,

Hi,

>Do I not need to configure them in MAX first?
You do not need to configure them in MAX at all.

For the cRIO Platform, the cRIO modules do not show up in MAX anywhere. All the configuration you need to do for CompactRIO Modules is done directly through the Project Explorer.

I know this is confusing for experimented NI products users, but the idea is that your modules configuration is now part of your application in the development environment.

Thank you.

I guess this makes sense if you consider that the hardware is reconfigurable.

It's also makes it a pain in the butt to use the Frame API and the Channel API that comes with the NI-CAN module with the NI 9853 swappable module.  The APIs take a MAX CAN Interface as an input, but with the CompactRIO, there is no CAN Interface listed in MAX even if you do have a NI 9853 module.  I really hope they fix this in the future as it would make interfaces with various toolkits much easier with the CompactRIO if the modules showed up in MAX as interfaces.
