cRIO does not appear in "Add Target & Devices"

I'm trying to add a cRIO-9002 to an empty project but I can't find it in the "Add Target & Devices" dialog.  I was able to setup the IP address of the cRIO with MAX.  I've installed Labview Real Time, FPGA, and NI-RIO.  Any ideas why cRIO is not showing up as a target?

This sounds to me as an installation problem. What I suggest doing to troubleshoot the problem, is to re-run the NI-RIO installer and make sure the "LabVIEW 8.0 Real-Time Project Provider for CompactRIO" feature is installed. This is where that feature is located in the NI-RIO 2.0 feature tree:

+ CompactRIO 2.0.0
   + C Series I/O Modules
   + CompactRIO Real-Time Controllers
       - LabVIEW 8.0 Real-Time Project Provider for CompactRIO

If it is not installed, then go ahead and install it (the installer should enable it by default); make sure LabVIEW is not running when the installation process starts. If that feature has already been installed, then there are a couple things I suggest tyring:

- Close LabVIEW, reboot the computer and try again (could be that you installed NI-RIO while LabVIEW 8.0 was in memory)
- Or do an installtion repair for NI-RIO

I'm confident this information will get you on track to continue your development. If it doesn't, just post back your findings and we will be glad to continue help figuring out what's wrong. If it does help you, be great if you can come back to this forum and say what you had to do to fix the problem.

Hi Dwisti, I wasn't able to see the "New Targets & Devices..." option when I right-clicked on the RT system where the FPGA is installed. NI told me to upgrade from NI-RIO 1.3 to 2.0 and now I can see it. What version of NI-RIO do you have? You can download NI-RIO 2.0 from Drivers & Updates: https://www.ni.com/en/support/downloads.html

dwisti,

A number of common things to check:

1) Make sure the RIO 2.0 driver (Older version of RIO will not work with LV8) , LabVIEW RT, and LabVIEW FPGA is installed (Since you're not seeing a section for CompactRIO devices, this is most likely your problem).
2) Check that the Windows XP firewall is disabled (at least temporarily).  It will block the broadcast packets used to detect the cRIO module.
3) Make sure you're not assigning the controller an IP address on a different subnet. The controller locating algorithm will not locate modules outside of the local subnet.

Let me know if you're still having difficulties.

Thank you everyone for the reply.  Sounds like I need NI-RIO v2.0.  I have v1.3 installed.  I will report back my findings after I update.  I did check for software updates in MAX but it didn't report any.  I guess I should have looked on the website.

Installing NI-RIO 2.0 fixed the problem. Thanks again to everyone who replied.

Hi.  I have the same problem (cRIO-9002 doesn´t appear in Add Target & Devices). But I couldn´t find the solution yet. I have installed the NI-RIO 2.0 drivers again, but I haven´t got any result. Could anyone help? Other question I haven´t found the -Labview 8.0 Real-Time Project Provider for CompactRIO in the NI-RIO installation options.

Hi Takahashi_Haruo,

Can you post a screenshot of what items you see under the CompactRIO 2.0.0 feature in the NI-RIO 2.0 installer?

You should be seeing something like this:

+ CompactRIO 2.0.0
   + C Series I/O Modules
   + CompactRIO Real-Time Controllers
       - LabVIEW 8.0 Real-Time Project Provider for CompactRIO

From the screenshot we should be able to determine what's going wrong in your setup.

Attached is a screenshot of the NI-RIO installer that has the "
Labview 8.0 Real-Time Project Provider for CompactRIO" feature enabled. This is from a computer with NI-RIO 2.0 installed.

Sorry because I haven´t noticed that item before. I´ve installed everything, but I still don´t have any clue why cRIO doesn´t appear.

How is your cRIO attached to your PC? Crossover cable? Network hub/router/switch? Chances are your network isn't set up correctly if your drivers and software are installed correctly and you're still not seeing it.

If you're using a crossover cable, you will need to set up a static IP address for your machine. Also check the firewall settings mentioned earlier.

Let us know.
