cannot install software on NI 9148

I'm attempting to set up a new cRIO system (my first) which has a cRIO-9074 with 8 modules plus a NI 9148 with 2 additional modules.  I have both devices on our network and installed the software onto the 9074 without any trouble.  When I tried to install software on the 9148, it seemed to only give me custom install options.  When I selected what I thought was necessary and clicked next I got an error "The target does not support custom software installations".  I've found this page: https://knowledge.ni.com/KnowledgeArticleDetails?id=kA03q000000YGx7CAG&l=en-US, but my real-time software wizard looks different.  Any thoughts on what to try next would be appreciated.

What version of the NI-RIO driver are you currently using? You can find that in MAX under "My System --> Software --> NI-RIO X.X"

The 9148 requires NI-RIO 3.5 or later, and if your Real-Time software wizard looks different, then you might have an older version.

I have a NI-9148 I wanted to use, but the chart says it only works on LabVIEW 2010. I am using LabVIEW 2009. Is this true? Are some newer FPGA products released for the latest version of LabVIEW only?

Per the chart, I need labview 2010, but I currently have labview 2009.  Hopefully upgrading the software will resolve my issue.  If it doesn't I'll post again.

it is true that new FPGA targets are not supported under older revs of LabVIEW FPGA.  9148 is only supported under LV 2010.  we use them quite a bit.  I am hoping for a new model with a bigger FPGA.

I would like to experiment with it, but we are currently using LabVIEW 2009 and will be until 2011 or 2012 comes out. We got of the yearly update treadmill. Do you know if you can use custom developed modules in it?

I don't know but I would expect so.  it is pretty transparent that you are using a 9148

You would be able to use the MDK 9951 with LV 2009 to develop your own custom modules. You will need to write your own drivers for this, but there is plenty of support on how to do that.

Hi, I did not understand how did you solved the problem, I have a CompaqRio 9148, labview 2010, and the same thing happened, there is only custom installation but it says "The target does not support custom software installation" so i can not install the software, my driver is NI-RIO 3.6.0. I dont know what to do

Hello Juan,

If you are using LabVIEW 2010, the only compatible driver is RIO 3.5.1 (see KB linked below). You can confirm your RIO version and LabVIEW version in Measurement & Automation Explorer.
