synchronizing modules with Crio

Problem:

I have installed MAX software on my PC. I have CompactRio 9012 with modules 9263,9234,9219 etc. The MAX is detecting my CompactRio chassis. The problem is when I create a new project, using LabView 8.6, the software does not detect any of my modules. I have tried all known possibilities , i have the latest software and hardware updates but still nothing. Please help! I have reinstalled everything, including the SO (Windows Vista), over and over again. I have tried 3 different PC and still nothing.

Hi,

Modules can be detected in two ways, FPGA interface, for this you need FPGA installed or Scan interface, for this RT and compact RIO softwares are enough.

As you are able to detect the chassi and the target , I assume you have compact RIO installed. To detect the modules in scan interface you have to install NI scan engine, NI RIO and NI RIO IO scan on the target. Use max and install these along with RT on to cRIO 9012.

Will I find them on the install cd software or drivers? If not, can  I download them from ni page?

PS: I belive that they are installed but I will check again and see.

Hello,

Are you able to detect and add your cRIO to the project? You will be able to see what you have installed in MAX: just expand the Software section and see if you have NI RIO installed, then expand your LabVIEW and you will see what LabVIEW modules and Toolkits you have installed. You will need at least NI LabVIEW RealTime module.

Next you will need to make sure that you have installed all needed software onto the cRIO. Find it in Remote Systems in MAX, click on the + to expand it then right-click on Software and select Add/Remove Software.

What version of NI RIO do you have?

Thanks,

RealTime will come with your LabVIEW software package as well as LabVIEW FPGA. NI RIO 3.1.1 can be downloaded off our website at http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/1289/lang/en

Ok I`ll give all possible details now:

I have both Crio 9012 and 9014 with some modules. I am able to detect them in MAX under Remote System( not both at the same time cause i connected them separately - still this does not make point in my question problem)

My LabView version is 8.6, last update in august 2008. I have all the software installed.

My NI Rio version, which was delivered with the package was 3.1.0, but now i have 3.1.1. I downloaded from the link you provided. (It did gave me a warning saying that I should upgrade my LabView to 8.6.1 but I don`t believe that`s the problem taking in account that it should work with all software which was provided with CompactRio)

No, I am not able to detect Rio in the project.
New project=>add target and device=>refresh=>Real-Time CompactRio(check existing target or device)=>not found. This is my main problem!

Why am I amble to see Crio in Max but not in labview?

PS: I have upgraded NI RIO to 3.1.1 still nothing.

PS2: Sorry if my english is bad but I`m from Romania!!!

Hi...

i'm having problems with the detection too, i start to work with labview last month and i install the lastest software(so i think).

when i open my MAX it detects my cRIO 9012 but do not detect the chassis, i already took a look in other pots but can't find an answer.

If someone can give me an idea how to fix this problem it would be good..

Thanks

Mário Silva

P.S.- it is the first time that i post here, i hope i'm posting in the right place.

Hi Mario,

Just to clarify, have you tried adding your cRIO to a project?  The reason I ask is because MAX will only detect the cRIO controller for configuration purposes.  MAX will not detect your chassis or modules.  To add your cRIO to a project, just create a new LabVIEW project, right click on Project and select New » Targets and Devices... » Existing Target or Device » Real-Time CompactRIO and select your target.  I hope this helps.

Hi Greg,
first i would like to thank you for answering my question, in fact i have done what you said "right click on Project and select New » Targets and Devices... » Existing Target or Device » Real-Time CompactRIO" and the window shows me my cRIO with the name that i give to him but i was expecting that below my cRIO appears the FPGA TARGET and the SLOTs that i have in my chassis.

I'm saying this because i'm following the "CompactRIO and LabVIEW Development Fundamentals Course Manual (version 8.2 May 2007 edition)" and in fact the FPGA and teh slots appears below the cRIO.

I will attach two pics for you to take a look in my projest window.

Thanks a lot.

Mário
