two flashes on cRIO-9073

Solved!
Go to solution

On my new cRIO-9073 the status led flashes two times, after I (re)installed software on it. The manual says that in this case "the chassis has detected an error in its software [...] Reinstall software on the chassis". I reinstalled three times, each time successfull ("Congratulations..." etc. etc.). In origin there was NI-RIO 3.2 installed on it, but it didn't work with my project (I use Labview 8.6), so I had to reinstall NI-RIO 3.0 and now I think that there's a compatibility problem beetwen the new cRIO-9073 and Labview RT 8.6 (NI-RIO 3.0)

What can I do now?

thanks

Hi,

as you can read in the Software Support for CompactRIO, the minimum version of driver and LabVIEW needed for the cRIO-9073 are LabVIEW 8.6 and NI-RIO 3.0, so you shouldn't have problems of compatibility.

Anyway the NI-RIO are backward compatible with LabVIEW (as stated here), so the system should have worked also with NI-RIO 3.2.

You could have a problem of installation of the software, so you could try the following:

1) format the cRIO and then try again to deploy the software on it

2) uninstall and install again the NI-RIO on your PC and then try to deploy it on the cRIO

Best regards,

How can I format the cRIO ?

Do you mean by "uninstall software" option in MAX?  Or by some other method?

Have a look at the "Reformatting the Flash Memory Card on a CompactRIO Controller or Single-Board RIO Device" topic in the MAX help for further formatting info.

I formatted flash memory and reinstalled software. Same result.

Now I'll try to reinstall RIO drivers on my computer...

I reinstalled NI-RIO 3.0.0 on my computer, then I formatted flash memory and reinstalled software on cRIO-9073, I've got the message "Congratulations! Your LabVIEW Real-Time target has been updated successfully". After reboot, the cRIO is in safe mode, with the message "Software Update Required"

I tried this with different PC and MAX.

Now I think that THERE IS a compatibility problem between new cRIO-9073 and LabVIEW 8.6/NI-RIO 3.0.0

Hi,

this could be a problem with the cRIO or with the updating procedure; so please contact directly the National Instruments Technical Support.

this is the console out:
----------------------------------------------------------------
...

*** Unable to boot.
An old version of NI-RIO is installed on this controller, and it
cannot boot.  You must install NI-RIO 3.1 or greater.
This version of NI-RIO is included with the CD that shipped
with the controller.

the latest cRIO-9073 is NOT compatible with NI-RIO 3.0.0 !!
