Migration of VI-Logger lite V1.1 database from old computer to a new one

How can I migrate all my experimetal runs from my old computer to a new one, and continue working on it?  I installed again NI-Traditional and VI-Logger lite Version 1.1 into the new computer.  I copied the data directory with all my work, but I can not read anything.
I can not upgrade my software because of my DAC-Card-AI-16XE-50, and I can not afford a VI-Logger Full Version.,
Can someone help me?
Many Thanks

Hi Albnar. This is unsupported, but possible. Maybe you´re doing something incomplete. Once you have located the database, you can copy all of the files located in the database directory to the other computer. They must be copied to the exact same location on the other computer for this to work. After these files have been copied, copy the config.mxs file located in the MAX directory (usually located in C:\Program Files\National Instruments\MAX) to the MAX directory on the other computer. It is important to note that for this procedure to work, you must copy the files to the exact same location on the target computer. The .mxs file contains the configuration settings for the environment in MAX, so copying this file to another computer overwrites those settings. This may lead to undesired results, and that is why this procedure is not officially supported. It is recommended that this is done on fresh installations of MAX, right before the system has been configured, so that the system can be properly configured once the data is imported. Make sure you look at the MAX.ini file located in the C:\Program Files\National Instruments\MAX\Data folder to see which is the current configuration file. Normally it should be config.mxs. However, it could be different if there are multiple configuration files located in the folder. I think that it will solve. Regards, Filipe Silva Application Engineering National Instruments Brazil.

Hi Filipe,
Thank you very much for your help.  I followed your instructions with success, except for one point.  I got all the runs on my new computer but just the names.  I can not see any results.
Could you continue helping me?
Many thanks

Hi Albanar, what are you using in the new PC and what were you using in the other? Theres any difference of the software version or something like this? It was running running normally before? I´ll keep helping you. Regards, Filipe Silva Application Engineering NI Brazil

Hello Filipe,

I am using the same version of NI-DAQ (7.1) Traditional and VI-Logger 1.1 in both computers.   The old one has Windows 2000 and the new one Windows XP professional.   I have the same applications in both computers.

I remember to have read something about this problem.  The solution was to erase some files (index files in the database directory) and with a new restart these indexes could be automatically recreated.  I am not sure if this is right or wrong, and I do not anymore which files have to be deleted.

Best regards

Albnar

Hello Albnar, Just for my knowledge: Before you transport your application from old to new PC, has any error appeared? Regards, Filipe Silva Application Engineering National Instruments Brazil

Hello Filipe,

in the mean time I re-installed the softwarte.   I got no errors during the process, but the problem is still there.  I can not see any old task results.

Hi Alberto,

Again, it is not supported so the best bet may be just exporting the data and viewing somewhere else like excel.
I'm sorry there wasn't an easy way to do this in VI logger.
Did you get a chance to detach and reattach the VI Logger Database? (I think that it will solve) The default database for VI Logger is called "VI Logger Data." It is in the directory C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\National Instruments\VI Logger. You should detach and then reattach to this database. At that point your original data should be available to you. Let me know if this solves the problem. I think that it will solve.

Hi Filipe,

It didn't work.  After this, the individuals runs in each Task disappear.  Only the Task names remain.  I will follow your recomendation to export the data to excel.

Thank you very much for your time and effort to help me

Best regards

Alberto
