when I use NI MAX (Measurement & Autoamation Explorer) to install SCXI 1200 module on 1000DC chassis, I get this message "You haven't any SCXI 1200 available in your configuration. You must add the periphral into your configuration before adding it to your chassis" ?

Hello,

One question, are you using the SCXI-1200 cabled to the parallel port?

If you are, here is a list of the configuration steps that you need to follow in order to install the SCXI-1200 successfully.

1. Insert the SCXI-1200 module into the first slot closest to power switch) of the chassis and add other modules in the subsequent slots. Make sure the chassis is powered off when you insert the module.

2. Next, cable the module to the computer by connecting one of the 25-pin D SUB ends of the parallel port cable to the PC parallel port and the other end to the back of the SCXI-1200. Screw in the mounting screws on the connectors to establish a firm connection.

3. Power on the chassis. In Windows 98/95, Go to Start >> Control Panel >> Add new hardware. Click the "next" button until you reach list of hardware. Select "SCXI-1200" under "Data Acquisition Devices." If Data Acquisition Devices does not show up, it is likely that you have not installed NI-DAQ correctly.

4. Launch the Measurement & Automation explorer by double-clicking the icon on the desktop.

5. Double-click on the "Devices and Interfaces." In Windows 95/98, you should see SCXI-1200 (added in step 5) listed under "Devices and Interfaces." Right-click on SCXI-1200 and select "Properties."

6. In the next window, Click on "Modify." This will pop a window that will allow you to change the type of communication for the SCXI-1200.

7. From the pull down ring menu, select the parallel port (e.g. LPT1). Click OK and "Next" in the following window.

8. Set the operating mode, polarity/range and the accessory used and click "Finish."

9. Now you will see the SCXI-1200 listed under the "Devices and Interfaces."

10. Right-click on SCXI-1200 and select "Properties." You will see a window that has a button at the bottom marked "Test Resources". Press this button. If everything is configured correctly, then you will see a pop-up window stating "The device has passed the test." If your device fails the resource test, you might get a message stating "The device is not responding to the first IRQ level." If you get this message, then there are other troubleshooting steps to take, and those will be available through the link listed below.

11. If your SCXI-1200 passes the test, go back to the "Devices and Interfaces" window, right-click anywhere in the empty space, and select "Insert." From the list, select "SCXI-1000" to add the chassis.

12. The next window will show you the chassis ID and address. Accept the default and click "next." Select "Autodetect" and click "next." You will be prompted to select the communications path. Select SCXI-1200 and click "next." You will see a list of modules that was detected. Make sure that the chassis is turned on and the all the modules are plugged in. This will complete the SCXI-1200 installation. You will see the chassis listed with the SCXI-1200 listed there.

Hope this information helps!
