We've recently discovered a fault condiiton with a Win7 32-bit machine connected to a SCXI box via a SCXI-1600 and USB.
Every Sunday night at 19:00, we lose communication with the SCXI-1600. Looking at the Windows Scheduled Tasks interface, this is the time that Windows is scheduled to run an automatic backup. This backup has run for years, but the error has only cropped up since the end of April.
I've changed the task option to only run when the computer is idle, but I'd prefer to back up the computer even if LabView is running.
Any thoughts?

Hi bmlerner,
That is odd especially if the update has been running fine in the past. Any recent updates to the computer or Windows in April?

Hi Frank,
Yes, the computer had a set of Microsoft updates applied about 9 days prior to the first observed crash. There were about a dozen individual updates applied so I won't enumerate each one. Is there a particular flavor of update I should be looking for?
Also, after checking the logs a bit more it looks that at least twice the SCXI maintained communication during a backup. I don't see any other event that runs at that time so I still think it's Windows Backup, but it does not appear to be a 100% fail rate.
Cheers,
Brian

Hi Brian,
If it is happening inconsistently then that is even harder to diagnose. The Windows updates can touch a wide range of system services, so it is hard to say what change is causing the problem. The best advice that I can give would be to restore the computer to a previous backup point before the update, if possible, and don't do the updates.
