how to acquire sound from a remote Pc

Hi All,

I have a question related to the test setup. I want to test my telematics product remotely. I have the part connected on the host PC. The audio In lines of the part are connected to audio out of PC and audio out lines of PC are connected to audio in of the part. I want to connect to this host PC from a remote PC, so that the user on the remote PC will be able to acquire the audio output of the part to the remote PC and the audio spoken out at the remote PC has to be sent to the part. The host PC and the remote PC can be connected using mstsc (thru VPN).

It would be of great help for any kind of pointers.
Thanks in advance
Pradeep.

Hi Pradeep,

From my understanding, you have your acquisition hardware connected to a host computer that you would like to access through a remote computer.  We have a similar setup here where we have DAQ cards that are setup to acquire data and store it in a host computer.  We then use Remote desktop to log into the host computer to control the acquisition.  This works very well.  I would just make sure that your hardware is set up correctly so that you can acquire proper data using the host computer.  I would also make sure that you are able to successfully log into the host computer with your remote computer.  I hope this helps.  If you have any further questions please detail the hardware and software that you are using and how it is setup.

Hi Ima,

The approach you have suggested here works fine when we are saving the acqired data on the PC.

Brief description of my requirement is to control the part connected on the host PC. The part plays the audio menu and i need to capture this audio menu and streamline it to the remote PC. Based on the menu heard the user spells a command and this audio command need to be sent to the host PC. I tried playing the audio menu captured on the DAQ to the sound card of the host PC and it works. When i am connected using a remote connection (mstsc) the audio is still played on the host PC rather than the remote PC. (In another case when i play the audio using the windows media player it plays on the remote PC. this is how i want my application to behave when remote connection is established.)

To put things simple, I am looking for a solution where I can hear the audio, coming from the DUT to the host PC DAQ card, on the remote PC sound card.

I even tried to use remote panels, I was able to control the UI but was not able to divert the audio from the host PC to remote PC.
I want to try playing the acquired audio from the DUT on the mstsc link directly. I was not able to figure out how to get the reference of the mstsc link. If you have any pointers it would be of great help.

Thanks & Regards
Pradeep

This may be all you are looking for:

Enabling Audio Mapping for Remote Desktop/Terminal Services

Steps for bringing the Audio over with Remote Desktop:

1. Open the Remote Desktop Connection client ("mstsc" on the commandline).
2. Click on Options>> to open the detailed settings dialog
3. In the "Local Resources" tab, there should be an option for "Remote computer sound".
4. Select "Bring to this computer"
