need to know recommended wiring gauge

I have new SCXI modules (type 1314 and 1520) and want to run multiple conductor cables (36 pair) up to about 175 feet in length.  Any reason I can't use 22-gauge stranded pairs?  Or smaller?  I have several runs to make through the same conduit and I want to limit the OD of the cable to as small as I can get away with, without and signal degradation.  My sensors will all be +/- 10 VDC and I plan on using remote sensing.

Thanks,

Hi GDM5,

It depends on the current that flows through the wires, what voltage drop is acceptable and which wires you use.

What do you want to measure at the end of the cable Volts or mVolts or ??

Another thing to consider over such a long run is electrical noise- will there be any power cables or switched signals in the conduit? You may want to use shielded (even twisted pair shielded) for you analog signal cable.
