The short answer is you do not NEED to use LabVIEW. The NI products will have shipped with the OS drivers required (NI-DAQ, NI 488.2 ...) to access the hardware. You would need to find some reference materials on how to make functional calls to the hardware in the target language. The first question to ask is ... why NOT use one of the basic software products? The basic versions of LabVIEW and LabWindows CVI are only $ 995.00 each. At traditional overhead rates for industry that cost translates to about $ 500.00 in equivalent salary -- maybe half a weeks pay? Do you really want to save that much money at the expense of time, effort, and productivity? If you are proficient in C, I suggest using LabWindows. Consider spending another $200.00 and get the LabWindows Cou
rse Training Manual. With those two purchases, an experienced programmer should find very little time is required to become a proficient user of the software.
