strain measurements using SCXi 1314

Rajeevan,

I am sorry this continues to be frustrating.  I assure you that others have been successful using load cells with the 1520.  I believe that either settings are incorrect, wiring is incorrect, or something is broken.  However, I agree it has been difficult to troubleshoot the issue over the forums.  I have contacted Akhil in NI India and have given him the link to the forum.  I will continue to work with Akhil to make sure your issue is resolved.

Dear Neil,

The problem was solved. It was a simple driver version problem(that is what I conclude from my experience). The solution is given here for the benfit of others. It is quite unfortunate that such simple checks were not being done at the beginning itself.

The driver version for DAQmx installed by your representative was 7.3 where the hardware require the version 8.0. It was your suggestion to use the diagnostic utility to check the hardware that directed to this solution. While running the utility it was stopped since it requested for version 7.4 or higher. I installed the version 8.0 given with 1314 block and checked the quarter bridge strain gauge and SCXi 1000 sent by the support group from Bangalore. It went fine. Then I checked with PXI 1052, 1520 and 1314 (which we purchased) . It was working fine.

Thank you very much for the support you have provided for this troublesome problem. The support given by Akhil and Rohit was helpful and intime. I remember the phone conversation they made through all these days to sort out the problem. Unfortunately nothing worked at that point of time.

I also have a special request to you. Whenever a client purchase a combo chasis like PXI 1052 and some modules like 1520 and 1314, there are a lots of slots kept vacant in the chasis. It would be quite appropriate the client to expect that NI supply the required closing pieces (like in computer cases) while delivering. Otherwise the NI DAQ system will look like some odd shaped amplifier box without any aesthetics. Also there are chances of getting dust, since in our case we are using it inside a concrete lab where there are a lots of casting work taking place daily. It would be quite nice it you could kindly direct your representative at Chennai to send some additional closing pieces  for the chasis.

With warm regards,

Rajeevan
