How do I interface with a computer to monitor frequency on a circuit?

I am trying to use labview to monitor the frequency in real time of an AC motor circuit.  I don't know how to do this or what hardware I will need.  This is for my senior project at school and I am on a limited budget so cost is a factor.

Some more information on your system would be helpful for choosing a data acquisition (DAQ) device.

1. At what voltage range are the signals expected to be?
2. At what frequency range?
3. How many signals are you measuring?
4. Besides measuring the frequency, will your application require any further I/O or synchronization?

With this information I could recommend either a specific data acquisition (DAQ) card or product line.
