Problem accessing PXI-5412

Solved!
Go to solution

I have a PXI-chassis which has a function generator (PXI-5412).  The function generator used to work but acts up after I re-installed drivers to fix a problem.  It doesn't show up in DACmx category or traditional daq.  Using instrument name (PXIx::yy::INSTR) won't solve the problem.  Got prompt "all detected NI signal generators are used by other processes and are unavailable to the FGEN soft frontpanel" when I try to use ni-soft front panel to test it - nothing else is running.  However, when I took the PXI-5412 out and put it in another slot everything would work.  I have tried to reinstalled DAQmx and niFgen several times but it didn't solve anything.  Please help.  Thanks.

Here's some additional info:

Labview 7.0, winXP, niFgen 2.4.0, DAQmx 8.0.1

Hello,

I'd like to gather some more information:

What was the problem that initally made you re-install drivers? Did that get fixed?

The PXI-5412 won't show up under Traditional DAQ, so that's normal.

So you say the device shows up normally if you put it in a different slot? Is this a workable solution? What's the slot number and the chassis model?

I wonder if you have a hardware problem with your chassis and that slot is not functional (perhaps a bent pin?). Try to verify that the slot works fine, if possible, by inserting a different type of PXI card in it and verifying that it is functional.

Thanks

Hi,

The reason that I had to reinstall driver was to roll back to an earlier version of DAQmx so that the tool will work with Labview 7.0 and my hardware (PXI-4472).  I got that solved.   The function generator that I have problem with was never removed and reinserted in the process.  I've tried to put in another PXI-5412 (I have two) and the same problem persists.  I checked the backplane for bented pin but everything looks normal.

Chassis: PXI-1045, slot 9 has problem, slot 10 works.  Changing the slot is not really a workable solution because I have to update all software on the floor.  I'll try to use another type of PXI-device and update you after I am done.

Thanks

Hi,

I got the problem out of the way.  I took the PXI card out, use a plier to pin the side wall of the backplane connector and it works.  I don't know exactly which pin was causing trouble but it has to be one (or some) of the pins outside of the PXI-5412's connector.  I guess I ruled out pin engagement issue a little too early in the game.  Thanks for helping.
