Did you mean:

sample rate, update rate, frequency, what´s the difference ?

Hallo,

i´m using the NI-PCI-5411 AWG. I have to generate a sine wave with 134.200 kHZ. I have looked through the examples which comes together with the niFgen driver. However I´m much confused with the terms ´sample rate´, ´update rate´, ´number of points´and also ´frequency´of the signal.

Am I right to say that the ´number of samples´= ´number of points´?

The manual states that the card has an ´update rate´of 40MHZ. What does that mean?

If I need to generate a signal with 134.2kHZ ,then the ´sample rate´is calculated by : 134200 x number of points?
Is this the ´sample rate´ which I have to give in to the parameter of the SampleRate.vi ?

Thank you very much for your reply in advance.

Kind regards,

Hi

There are a lot of fundamental questions here, more than what it would take to easily answer here.

The good news is that all these, and more, questions, issues, fundamentals are answered in the NI Signal Generators Help File under the Fundamentals topic. The current contents have been included with niFGen since version 2.0, 2.3 being the most current version of the driver. You can find the files (on a Windows PC) under Start>>Programs>>National Instruments>>NI-FGEN>>Documentation
