Save triggered data from 2 modules

Solved!
Go to solution

I am using SignalExpress (3.0) with USB cDAQ-9172, a NI9203 current and NI9201 voltage module.  After Acquiring data (continuously), I am using a software trigger on the 9203 current signal to analyze and save the triggered data (collected from all 8 channels on 9203).  However, I am not able to save the data from 9201 voltage module?  It looks like the software trigger only accepts a single module input (I think).  As shown in the attachment "trigger Input.jpg" I can only select 1 module as the input for the software trigger (either the current module or the voltage module)

Is there any way to trigger on a single channel and then save data from both modules?

Thanks!

Ryan

Hi Ryan,

Include a second step, and use the same reference trigger.

Hope that helps.

Could you clarify?  What type of step should I add (a second "acquire" step or "trigger" step)?

I am triggering from a 4-20mA signal from a NI9203-8 channel current module (I don't think that is considered a software trigger, as I stated above).  I can only select 1 module as an input for the trigger step as shown in the attachment (and then only select a single channel as the actual trigger source signal).  The triggered data is only coming from a the selected module then.

Even trying to add another step, I can't save the voltage as triggered data with trigger source being from a current module.

Any thoughts are appreciated!

Hello Ryan,

To simplify your issue, you are acquiring from the 9201 & 9203. You want both modules to be triggered from the 9203.

Please keep in mind that the 9203 doesn't support Analog triggering, so if the above assumption is true, we will need to rethink your application.

Hi Glenn,

Yes, you've stated the issue correctly (and simplified)!   Can this be done another way... maybe from an Execution Control step (Conditional Repeat / Loop or Sequence step) ?

Hi Ryan,

Since the 9201 or the 9203 doesn't support analog triggering, I recommend setting a software trigger to acquire the data. You can do this by inserting 'start' and 'stop' conditions in the recording tab. From there you can set up a software trigger.
