using PXI-5670 with signalexpress

Hi
can i generate an RF signal in range from 200-400Mhz with PXI-5670 RFSG using signalexpress 3.0 ????
if the answer is "yes", then HOW TO DO THIS???.
i m able to generate the signal with PXI-5421 (AWG) but how th upconvert this signal in signalexpress with PXI-5610 (upconverter) ??? as i havent seen a step for upconvertion of the signal generated by PXI-5421.:(
I need all of this because i want to generate a hopping signal using signalexpress with PXI-5670 (RFSG) above 200Mhz.

help in any form i.e. text files(manuals) or VI's will be really useful for me.

Hello Adnan,

Unfortunately you cannot use NI LabVIEW SignalExpress with our RF Generators and Analyzers. This includes to PXI-5670. The only options you have for generating with the PXI-5670 are LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, C Code or the test panel. The test panel can be accessed through Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) and allows for simple single-tone generation.

For anything more complicated than single tone generation you will need to use an ADE, such as LabVIEW.

Thanks DAN

actually as far as i know the signalexpress can generate the signal from AWG (in IF range).If the signalexpress cant upconvert that signal to RF, CAN I USE LABVIEW ANS UPCONVERTER HADRWARE (i.e PXI-5610)TO UPCONVERT THAT IF GENERATED BY AWG?????

Hello Adnan,

Yes, you could use the 5610 in upconverter-only mode within LabVIEW and then generate your signal within SignalExpress for the AWG. The only thing is, if you are already using LabVIEW for the upconverter you should also probably be using LabVIEW for the signal generation as well.

Even though this is possible it unnecessarily complicates the application.

As for using the 5610 in upconverter only mode see the example RFSG External AWG (5610).vi in the Example Finder under Hardware Input and Output»Modular Instruments»NI-RFSG»Utilities.

Let me know if you run into any difficulties.

Dan King
