switch executive 2.1 doesn't appear in MAX 4.1

I have the following software:
XP sp2
NI Max 4.1
ICP 2.5
LabWindows 8.0.1
Visa 4.0

When I install Switch Executive 2.1 everything goes ok (no errors) it then asks for a reboot and after rebooting there is no switch executive in MAX.
The MAX software branch shows Switch executive is installed and I tried launching MAX from the Start Menu entry under NI and Switch Exec.

Any ideas?

I tireid uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail.

cymrieg:

Are you missing the NI Switch Executive Virtual Devices folder in MAX?  This folder is missing if Switch Executive fails to import its example configuration on install.

Try the following:

1. If you're not logged in as an administrator, try doing so - the folder creation may require this.
2. You may still be able to use Switch Executive without the folder.  Try right clicking on the Devices and Interfaces folder in MAX and choose Create New..., then scroll to the bottom and see if you have an NI Switch Executive Virtual Device entry in the list.  Use this to import a virtual device or create a new one.  Then, the missing folder will appear.

Brian,

The switch exec folder is missing under "Devices and Interfaces" and if I right mouse click and select "Create New" there is no option for Switch Exec.

Just tried uninstalling and installing a downloaded eval version with the same results. I was using the version on the CD.

The software selection says it's installed.

Hello cymrieg,

There are a couple of things to verify:

a) Do you have the following folder?

C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Switch Executive

b) In the window's enviroment, go to Start>>All Programs>>National Instruments, do you Switch Executive there?
In this folder you will see MAX with Switch Executive

c) In control panels>>Add and Remove programs>>National Instruments Software
Do you see Switch Executive listed there? Have you tried repairing the installation?

Sandra T,

It's a yes to all 3. It appears to be installed correctly but it doesn't appear in NI-MAX in the usual location.

Hey John,

Try the following things:

Go to Start>>All Programs>>National Instruments>>Switch Executive>>MAX with Switch Executive
Open this up to use the program. Once you have been using this and have created a Switch Executive Virtual Device you should be able to see it in MAX now.

This is my main problem!

I launch NI MAX via the "MAX with NI Switch Executive" icon but when I right mouse click on "Devices and Interfaces" and select "Create New" there is no switch executive (virtual) choice.

Try running the said executable with 's' passed at the command line (without quotation marks, just a plain letter s).

That should add the demo configuration to the devices and interfaces.

Thank you for your patience!

Srdan,

If I run "switchexecutive s" nothing runs.

If I run "switchexecutive /s" max launches but there is still no demo configuration under devcies and interfaces.

Just a quick question, did not see this detail in this thread: are you running as administrator on that system?
