Upgrade systemlink

Hi,

we have been using Systemlink for several month now. we are now on the 19.6 version and we want to upgrade it to the 20 version. Is there a way to do that without shutting down all of our production. Maybe programming an automatic upgrade at night, if so how?

thanks,

NIPM API might be useful in this situation.

There isn't any automation like this built into the product, but with the NIPM CLI and Windows scheduled tasks you could achieve something like this (the previous comment builds on this concept).

One thing I would encourage you to do (especially if you script the upgrade) is to

  1. Test the upgrade on a non-production system. Make sure your scripts do what you expect when you expect them to run.
  2. Back up your production server prior to upgrade. I cannot stress this enough. If the upgrade goes sideways you don't want to be stuck without a backup plan. I encourage using volume snapshots of the entire server disk to do this (assuming you are currently in a single box configuration for SystemLink).
    1. Depending on how you are hosting SystemLink you have a few options. For a dedicated on-prem Windows machine I encourage https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/it-pro/windows-server-2008-R2-and-2008/cc.... For VMs I would encourage to use the vender specific snapshot capability. For Cloud hosting I would recommend the vender specific snapshotting solution such as AMIs on AWS.

it's kind of complicated. Is there a futur systemlink feature planned that will ease this operation.
