We had a Robo Rio 2 (p/n 13334B-01L / s/n 3227D5B) fail (was operating fine in the robot up until it was not any more) - the power status light shows solid red. The open connection ports were taped over, we removed the tape and could not find any metal particle contamination. Looking for next steps or a repair.

Hi Scott67, my name is Jessica, I work at NI.
When the power light is solid red, this means a fault condition is detected. One or more user voltage rails are in short-circuit or overcurrent condition. These are generally caused by metal shavings falling inside the case of the roboRIO. Clear the device by opening the case and trying the following:

Thanks, think we checked most of those things but will try again this evening.

We plugged the roboRIO back in last night and it seems like I may have been somewhat mis-informed on the status lights, it does go solid red for a few seconds at start-up but then transitions to flashing red. What are the next steps for diagnosing a flashing red status light?
We did also closely examine the connector ports for metal chips and everything appears clean.
Thanks

Hi Scott67,
Thank you for clarifying.
You can try reimaging the roboRIO SD card: roboRIO 2.0 microSD Card Imaging. Once imaged, reinsert it to the roboRIO and connect it to your computer by USB to set the team number using the roboRIO Imaging Tool. If the device exhibits the same behavior, try a different microSD card.
These steps are detailed in FRC roboRIO STATUS LED Constantly Flashing in case you'd like to take a look.
Have a great day!
