Robo Rio Status Light Flashing

Solved!
Go to solution

Hello,

We are from team 8817 and we recently had our robo rio 2 stop working and having a constant flashing status light. We were given another and we got it up and working to finish the tournament. Now back home we are trying to get our Rio up and working and cant get past the blinking status light. The rio has worked for us since last year and it worked up until the middle of the tournament without fail. We had no electrical isses or some type of damage to the robot it simply started flashing. Please help me if possible I am trying to help my team.

Hello swaring,

Thanks for using the NI forums. I read your roboRIO 2.0 has been continuously flashing. Let's check some things before we determine that the device is nonfunctional.

  • We were given another and we got it up and working to finish the tournament.
Was the other device also a roboRIO 2.0? Did you use the same SD card with it?
  • Have you attempted reimaging your SD card using the steps in the WPIlib docs?
Have you tried a different SD card?
    Imaging your roboRIO 2
  • We had no electrical isses or some type of damage to the robot it simply started flashing.
Let's open the device from by removing the cover from the bottom (4 screws) and clean it using compressed air, especially the SD card slot. A continuously flashing Status LED in the roboRIO 2.0 normally indicates the device is not able to boot properly, likely because the SD card is not being read.

Thanks!

We've just updated to the latest FRC Game tools and I attempted to reflash the RIO this morning with the app 2023_v3.2 image.  The resulting image will not boot.  I get continuously flashing status lights.  I've tried two RIOs and two of the provided microsd cards.  Same behavior regardless.  We've tried flashing with Balena and Raspberry PI.  We're blocked pretty badly and need this resolved urgently.  I will DM with my phone number.

Thank you for your response. we did as you asked and I am happy to say it solved our problem. Upon further inspection of the RIO I noticed that there were some very small metal shavings inside. I used an air compressor to blow them out and now the RIO is no longer blinking repeatedly the lights are showing correctly. I have the image on two SD cards and when installed the RIO works.
