RoboRIO unresponsive.

Solved!
Go to solution

Hello!

we have a roborio that we're not able to connect to or to load code.   I have a video of the lights when it is powered on, but its just a  video file (not online/youtube).  Let me know where i can email the file to.

When connected to power, the power light is red (on), and that status light does a repeating sequence of double flashes.  no other signs of life.

Please advise.

Hi, JFox100

I'm Matthew with NI. Thanks for posting on the forums.

Is the original roboRIO (has a "National Instruments" logo and a LabVIEW logo), or the V2 (has a micro-SD card slot, an "ni" logo, and says "v2")?

According to the docs: https://docs.wpilib.org/en/stable/docs/hardware/hardware-basics/status-lights-ref.html
a double flash means the device is recognizing a software error and needs to be re-imaged.

You can see details on how to do this
for the v1: https://docs.wpilib.org/en/stable/docs/zero-to-robot/step-3/imaging-your-roborio.html
for the v2: https://docs.wpilib.org/en/stable/docs/zero-to-robot/step-3/roborio2-imaging.html

If doing those steps doesn't get it working, can you try booting the roboRIO into safe mode (https://docs.wpilib.org/en/stable/docs/software/roborio-info/recovering-a-roborio-using-safe-mode.ht...)?

Hi!

It is the original rio.   there is no way to connect to the rio. It wont connect, therefore there is no way to update firmware or software.

Where can i send the video?

To make sure I understand correctly, it won't connect even in safe mode (hot to get it into safe mode: https://docs.wpilib.org/en/stable/docs/software/roborio-info/recovering-a-roborio-using-safe-mode.ht...)?

Hello!

I passed along your link to my team last night.  They were able to recover the RoboRIO!     Thanks for your guidance!
