RoboRio 2.0 power light is red

Hi, I am from team 8516 and we are having a problem with our RoboRio 2.0. After booting the robot, we noticed the power LED indicator would turn red. We have tried to fix this problem ourselves by reimagining the device and that did not fix our problem. We also took it apart and cleaned it out, we found some metal shavings, but after getting what we belive is all of those out, we are still having this problem. Is there anything else we can do to fix this problem or are we able to get this replaced?

Hi 23Spartan,

I'm Matthew with NI. Thank you for posting on the forums.

A solid red power light means the device is detecting a short, so I suspect there are still shavings that have gotten inside the case.

Can you open the device (again) using the four screws on the back and the two screws at the power port and clean the circuit board off using compressed air? (Maybe also use a flashlight to inspect the board closely for any remaining metal shards and remove them as well.)

Hey Matthew this Todd the head coach for 8516 as well as CSA.  We experienced many issues like this at worlds this past week.  We have cleaned, tried need SSD card, power cycled many times with nothing but power hooked for to see if the power light will go back to green.  What we found interesting is we saw 3 roboRio  with exact issue.  If you remove the jumper complete that switches 3 Vdc or 5 Vdc rails this error goes away, point to the DIO and relay rails shorted.  Most of these boards we looked at are like new inside with no evidence of metal shavings.  Talking with Oscar and others onsite it would be nice if NI could take a very of these boards back and actually complete a full root cause analysis what the issue is.  We had multiple issues with RoboRio2.0 at champs to be just simple shavings getting into the board.  Please advise us to have to get us RMA number to replace this board as soon as possible.  Thanks.
