Roborio 2.0 Not Showing on Imaging Tool, Indicating "Unrecoverable Error"

Solved!
Go to solution

I followed the steps to image our brand new Roborio 2.0, and after flashing the microSD card using balena etcher, our device could not detect the roborio through USB wired connection. We attempted all of the troubleshooting methods (Disabling WiFi, firewall, raspberry pi flasher, safe mode, reflashing) however, all signs point to "Unrecoverable Error" due to the constant flashing of the signal light. How can this be fixed?

Hi KaranChawla,

This is Juan Garcia from NI Technical Support.

We know this is a brand new roboRIO but we would like to discard all possible problem before returning it.

Can you please the following steps:

  1. If after successfully imaging the SD card and inserting it into the roboRIO, the roboRIO 2.0 exhibits the same behavior, try a different microSD card.
  2. Open the device by removing the cover from the bottom (4 screws) and clean it using compressed air, especially the SD card slot. A continuously flashing Status LED in the roboRIO 2.0 normally indicates the device is not able to boot properly, likely because the SD card is not being read.

Regards.

Replacing the microSD card worked, but we also had to switch devices to recognize the RIO. For some reason on our laptop, the USB port does not work to connect to the RIO, but it works for all other applications (Ex. Connecting to a Joystick). Weird, but our problem is solved!
