roboRIO 5v short

One of our roboRIO 2.0 devices on our comp swerve bot recently stopped communicating with the NavX2 gyro board through MXP. I took the RIO off the bot, and installed our spare, and have been attempting to chase down the source of the fault.

Following all the troubleshooting steps listed in the related CD post, roborio red power led, as well as NI post 5v Rio short, I haven’t been able to find or fix the issue. The drive station does show a short on the 5v rail, but I have been unable to find any debris anywhere on the board that would indicate the cause.

I have attempted the following:

  • Turning the RoboRIO upside down and shaking it vigorously.
  • Vacuuming out the ports on the RoboRIO.
  • Use canned air or compressed air to clear the hardware pinouts.
  • Check with a flashlight for material making contact in the port pinouts.

More info is in the Sibling Chief Delphi post.

I am at this point unsure what to do.  We have a comp in 4 days, and it would be nice to have our spare RIO working by then.
